Red Velvet Cheesecake Brownies and Cooking Meth

Today we got our first visit from our new neighbors. It was around 5:30 when they knocked on the door with cookies in hand. I still hadn't managed to get out of my pajamas or brush my teeth, but I invited them in anyways and started chatting when Blake came up in his airbrushing attire:

Yes, he still had the mask on. We're pretty sure they went home, Googled "Meth House Warning Signs" and are now watching our house for suspicious activity. There is one first impression down!

Aside for scaring the neighbors, I had a pretty productive weekend, which included finding a new red velvet cheesecake brownie recipe. I found a recipe last weekend, but I had to half the recipe to accommodate by mini oven (You can read more about there in last weekend's post),which wasn't easy with a recipe that called for 3 eggs and 3/4 cup flour.

I was pretty excited this week when I found a recipe on Pinterest for red velvet cheesecake brownies made in a 9x9 pan. Perfect fit for mini oven; no halving required! The turned out great.

You can check out the recipe on Baking Bites.

Massage Wheel - Valentine's Gift Idea

Here is another gift that I made Blake for Christmas that would make a great Valentine's Day gift. I made it using AutoShapes in Microsoft Word, printing the shapes on card stock paper and cutting out the shapes. I then connected them using a brad. Easy, cheap and appreciated by my husband!

In other news, I had a successful cooking experiment tonight after the not-so-successful red velvet brownies this weekend. I made thai noodles. And when they say spicy, they mean it! It was delicious, but a little too spicy for me this time around. It asks for 1 to 2 Tbls. of crushed red pepper - next time I'm sticking to 1 Tbls.

After spicy noodles we went to Target for some necessities for Blake, and when we got back, I realized that the noodles left the house smelling funny.

I also leaned today that Blake has a fascination with timepieces, which is odd considering he is never on time, but he insisted on getting a second clock for the bedroom and a new clock for the family room. He also "needed" a new TV stand, so I'm currently watching him struggle to put that together while watching Always Sunny in Philadelphia and trying to keep the cat from eating the styrofoam packaging.

Bad Day Box - Valentines Gift Idea

Hello all! The move last weekend weekend went nearly flawlessly. One of my few disappointments with the house so far is the oven. It's a mini oven! A jelly roll pan doesn't even fit in it. I didn't know such things existed, so I didn't even think of it when we were looking at the house. Needless to say, we're in the market for a new oven!

Tonight I'm waiting for a baking experiment to finish up in the oven. I'm trying to make marbled red velvet cheesecake brownies from The Novice Chef. I had to half the recipe due to mini oven's size restrictions, and based on what I've seen in the oven so far, I messed something up and don't think I'll be posting about their success.

However, I do have a great idea for Valentine's Day! I made Blake a bad day box for Christmas that would make a great gift for your honey on virtually any holiday (Valentine's Day, birthday, etc).

Our New House!

It was about a year ago when I announced that I was engaged. Now, almost one year to the day when Blake proposed, we finally get to move into our own house. After spending our first three months of marriage living separately with our patents (never an ideal situation and certainly not when you’re 30), we are ready to start the adventure of home ownership.

I’m so excited to share with all of you my adventures with decorating endeavors, conquering my new kitchen equipment and learning to live with Blake and his cat Ferbie. In the meantime, check out some photos of our new place (compliments of the seller's realtor):

Ferbie likes watching birds out the window, so Blake thinks the living room window will be a hit with him. We plan to put a bird feeder out front and the windows are low to the ground so he doesn't have to jump onto anything to look out (he's kind of a lazy cat).

Like I said, there will be decorating endeavors. Things like ... painting with wood paneling in the basement. Notice the table in the background? That's Blake's beloved poker table that I let him buy from the current homeowners.

The kitchen - my priority during home shopping. Not the most fashionable kitchen I saw, but it has plenty of space for all the kitchen gadgets I got for my wedding and cork flooring, which I understand is fabulous. I'm a bit afraid of all of the white. Any paint color suggestions posted below would be much appreciated!

There is a large raised garden ready for Blake - complete with a fence to keep rabbits out. And check out the patio! The more I think about it, the more I think it may be my favorite thing about the house. It comes complete with a porch swing, and I can't wait to spend my first rainy day on the swing listening to the rain.
